SOFIA BERT

Public Relations Professional

I have a real passion for public relations.

As the Marketing Communications Assistant for the Dean’s Office in the College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts (PSFA) at SDSU, I have had extensive experience in writing, editing, and preparing information for dissemination through all major media. I wrote articles and press releases and served as editor for PSFA Stories, covering upcoming news and events for seven schools. I created promotional videos for PSFA and another program, Arts Alive SDSU, included in University media briefings meetings. I edited and published all stories and external links to the PSFA website, ensuring the format and information is accurate and engaging.

In Fall 2019, I was a news anchor on The Daily Aztec Live show, which gave me experience working with broadcast-style scripts and video coverage. I also hosted a morning news show called Post Snooze News for KCR College radio from August 2017 to May 2018, where I developed radio scripts and content. During my senior baccalaureate project, I crafted messaging for a non-profit organization and talking points for the CEO, who then used these talking points in interviews and podcasts that I arranged. I have experience pitching media; for this project, I pitched real-life stories about the non-profit to more than 20 news organizations and niche media outlets that fit the primary targets of the non-profit.

As a digital native, I am incredibly familiar with many social media platforms, including but not limited to: Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, TikTok, and YouTube. In my position as a Marketing Communications Assistant, I managed the Facebook and Twitter platforms for the San Diego State College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts (PSFA) and launched their first Instagram account. I am Hootsuite Certified and find that one of the benefits of using Hootsuite in a professional capacity is that it automatically generates analytics that helps understand our audience and build a brand.

In Spring 2019, I took a Social Media Advertising course that taught me the management of social media for brands and businesses. This class taught me how to analyze and apply social media trends and key advertising trends, including visual content and storytelling, ephemeral content, community management, active listening, user-generated content, brand management, and analytics. I have a social media toolbox that provides me with the best, up to date knowledge for managing the correct social media for a given brand.

These experiences sharpened my writing skills and allowed me to reach a wide range of target audiences with positive storytelling. I have successful experience managing, evaluating, and creating social media outreach from my coursework, club involvement, and as the Marketing Communications Assistant for the Dean’s Office of PSFA and I can’t wait to help you.
